I.                    The Northern Arena – GEO 2-3 - East of the Sea of Galilee (Tiberius Sea)
A.     The tribes of Manasseh, Gad and Reuben were given land east of the Jordan and Sea of Galilee.  Gad and Reuben had livestock and the land was favorable for that.  Numbers 32:1-2.
B.     The Golan Heights are to the east of the Sea of Galilee.  This area belonged to the tribe of Manasseh. Joshua 13:29-33; Numbers 32:33; Dt 3:12-17.
C.     Gilead (the area given to Gad) is just south of the Sea of Galilee and east of the Jordan River.
1.      Gen 37:25ff – Ishmaelites coming from Gilead with camels loaded with balm on their way to Egypt.  Joseph’s brothers sold him to them.
2.      Elijah was from Gilead – I Kings 17:1
3.      Jer 8:22 – Jeremiah asks – Is there no balm in Gilead?  No physician?
4.      Matthew 8:23ff – Jesus calms the storm and arrives on the other side of the Sea of Galilee in the region of the Gadarenes and heals two demon possessed men – casting the demons into pigs. (8:28ff). GEO 3.
5.      Matthew 4:23-25 – Jesus preaches and heals large crowds from Galilee and the Decapolis.  “There is a balm in Gilead”.
D.     Galilee is to the west of the Sea of Galilee.  Galilee is divided into two regions – Upper Galilee and Lower Galilee.
II.                 Around the Sea of Galilee (aka Sea of Tiberias Jn 6:1)
A.     Tiberius is located on the western side of the Sea of Galilee.
B.     Mt of Beatitudes
1.      Mt 5-7 – Sermon on the Mount
2.      Looking down from the mount to the north is a town called Magdala.  The Greek name for the town is Taricheae.
a.                          Magdala (Mt 15:39 KJV; Magadan ESV) is the home town of Mary Magdalene. Jesus cast demons from her.  She was at the cross and the tomb of Christ.
b.                          Taricheae is the place where fish was salted and preserved. So when Jesus says in the Sermon on the Mt – “You are the salt of the earth” the listeners had a context.
D. Plain of Bethsaida – Luke 6:20 – Sermon on the Plain (?)
III.               Beqaa Valley (ROR cover);
